The seminar is specifically aimed at minority and women-owned businesses, but all are encouraged to attend this worthwhile and free workshop.
The February 23rd seminar is entitled “The Raw Realities of Business”. An expert panel to share advice and ideas for business owners and those thinking of starting a new business will join Cathy Smith, of IDEA. Ms. Smith and her expert panel will share the realities of some of the most common business challenges.
“During these challenging economic times, it’s essential to help develop entrepreneurs of all ages, ethnicities, and backgrounds to ensure continued job creation and economic growth in our county,” Falk said.
“The Raw Realities of Business” will be held February 23rd, 2010 from 5:00 until 7:30 p.m. at the Alliant Energy Center, Wingra Room, 1919 Alliant Energy Center Way in Madison. The session is intended to help prospective or current business owners with expected gains and losses, potential business roadblocks, as well as offers networking opportunities.

Kathleen Villard of Villard and Associates CPA is a small business with two locations, Madison and Monona. She made her fist venture capitalizing on the internet’s value with her website.

Kathleen broadened her marketing sphere by advertising her business in two communities with Madison Area City Guide (MACG). By targeting her markets through MACG she saves money and can expand into other markets if and when her business is ready to do so. She has been a client of Madison Area City Guide for two years.

With the assistance of MACG she has now taken the next step into video production by being introduced to a firm that specializes in introductory videos for small business. Kathleen utilized MACG suggestion to integrate her video with her Gold level listings and her website to add a personal touch with sight, sound and motion. By introducing herself via video she is now using the internet to its full potential, maintaining and growing her existing client services.

Domestic abuse: How you can help.

Every 9 seconds a woman is battered in the U.S. 1 in 4 women are abused. That equals 1.3 million a year. Domestic violence occurs in 60% of marriages and is the most unreported crime. 50% of abusers abuse their children as well. These statistics were pulled from The Riley Center website about domestic abuse statistics. This year Domestic Abuse Intervention Services (DAIS) has seen victims of more brutal violence than ever before. Abusers are becoming more brazen and clients are expressing more fear due to the escaladed death threats made against them.

March 12th Lotus Salon will be hosting an open house to kick off their domestic abuse fundraiser that will run until April 30th. Make a $10 donation and receive a recipe book filled with great dishes from staff and clients. They will also be hosting a cell phone drive and food drive. From 4pm to 8pm take advantage of amazing product sales, free gift certificates when you bring a new friend to Lotus Salon, meet the makers of their product line, a new and exciting product launch, door prizes, appetizers, and more.
